How did you meet all of your friends who are in the hip elite grungy scene? And did you buy your house at once? I'm struggling to buy a nice mellow house but I can't?!
haha I’ve never heard it called that before! I think I know who you’re referring to though. Most people I met by going to shows or through mutual friends. And I actually don’t own my house! My roommates and I are renting. We found our place on Craigslist last summer.
If you’re interested in buying a house, I’ll have my real estate license soon and would love to help you out :)
Hi mukta! Do you know where I can get myself that Luzer shirt by any chance?
I have no idea where to get the Luzer shirt but I want one too! I think Chelsea got it at one of their shows a while back. Their merch table is probably your best bet!
I couldn’t pass on these lovely pink tinted photographs that I saw at an antique store the other day. They were shot by Jimmy Baynes, a postal worker who supplemented his day job by photographing the African American community in Cleveland in the 1950s & 60s. There is currently an exhibit of his work at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!
photo booth pictures from the La Luz show :)
La Luz had an extra day while they were in LA so with Honey Power and the other girls in my house, we organized a secret show and threw a party for them!
It was so much fun! Hannah made cute La Luz cookies. Chelsea & Justine put together a photo booth with props. Miguel made a flyer and set up the lights in our living room. My roommates helped make pompoms & decorations. And Angela Ratzlaff took photos of the night! These are her pictures.
The girls in La Luz are super nice and talented and I totally have a friendcrush on all of them!!
That person telling you mean things is a joke. You seem like a very loving person and is REAL. You know how to live and enjoy every fuckn day like Henry Thoreau. You're one of a kind mukta :) and I wish you were a close friend of mine
Aww thank youuu!! :)
Everybody talks shit about you behind your back. How do you cope with it?
Recognize that it’s a part of life and that not everyone is going to like you. If someone were to (politely) confront me in person about their issues with me, then I would respect that and see what we could do to mend the situation. If I accidentally hurt someone, I would obviously want to know and make things better. But if someone wants me to change who I am because s/he is insecure with her/himself, then that’s not cool.
Also, I only feel close to a handful of people and their opinion is worth more to me than a stranger’s. So certain comments hold a different amount of weight in my eyes - for instance, my bff calling me out on something is going to mean much much more than an anonymous tumblr comment or the opinion of a stranger.
What are your favorite bands rn? How can one become a dj on kxlu? Where is your favorite place to eat in California? Who is your inspiration? And do you have a significant other in your life?
So many questions!
Favorite bands right now: Habibi, Heaven, and Girlpool
The easiest way to be a DJ on KXLU is to be a student at LMU and then do an online radio show on KLMU. After that, there’s an application, interview, and training session. We have some community members at the station but are focused on getting students involved. You can email our program director Auberi at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information!
Favorite place to eat in LA: Probably the Taco Zone truck. Get a mulita.
Inspiration: I feel like I have so many levels of people I look up to! I admire lots of people for different reasons and could go on and on!
- Huell Howser is a big one. I grew up watching California’s Gold and have always been drawn to his enthusiasm. I love that he would talk to anyone and visit places we might not notice otherwise.
- I’m lucky to have some goal oriented girls in my life who really inspire and encourage me! Dylan Rupert, Joanna Ong, Chelsea Brown, Hannah Melde. They all think about their goals and make an effort to achieve them - whether it’s creative endeavors, thinking about the kind of lifestyles they want, or changing the world. It’s so cool to have friends who are career oriented and excited about life!
- LA people who I don’t personally know but follow on the internet and am a fan of: Madeline Brand, Jacob Soboroff, Claire Evans, Cara Santa Maria, Alia Penner
Significant other: Yeah, I’m dating someone pretty awesome right now
Hannah and I went to the Moore Lab of Zoology a couple weeks ago with The LA Obscura Society. It was such a fascinating place! They have a collection of 60,000+ bird specimens that they use for research. For this event, the guides laid out hundreds of birds on the tables so that we could get a closer look. The birds were beautiful and the researchers had all kinds of knowledge about them! I loved how the tags looked. Many of them were handwritten in cursive in the early and mid 1900s. So pretty!
